Pilates
Originally called Contrology, Pilates is now named for its creator, Joseph Pilates. Pilates is a method of low-impact exercise that builds overall strength and flexibility. It focuses on alignment, control, breathing, flowing movement, and concentration. The emphasis is on technique and control versus repetition.
Joseph Pilates protégé and successor, the late Romana Kryzanowska, summarized Joseph Pilates’ exercise system in three words:
